I have to acknowledge that the first scene with a car making circles was boring. I guess it shows us the way in which Johnny leads his life, pointlessly and getting nowhere. But the rest of the movie kept me interested. Though there are only a few dramatic scenes, no part of the film seems pointless to me, each one has its purpose. I was able to find pleasure in those many situations where Johnny is treated with irony, in observing his tiredess and boredom and in his daughter's affection. I didn't get any sense apart from what is quite obvious.
Other films with teen celebs that I can remember are Elle's Phoebe in Wonderland, Little miss sunshine and My sister's keeper with Abigail Breslin, Coraline that features Dakota's voice, Off the map, Ghost world. I think that some of them are just as good as Somewhere.

kept me interested to till the end, meaning it just ended, thats what made it so pointless in watching it. waited for something to happen and nothing did. the boring life of Johnny, wow, so boring.
Phoebe in Wonderland is an orsm move, it was 100 times better than somewhere, you cant compare those movies, Phoebe in Wonderland was basically about turrets syndrome, it had powerful meaning and a great story line. My sister's keeper was unreal, not just as good, 1 million times better lol...how can you say "somewhere" was better lol, thats just crazy. but thats your option so i respect that, each to there own. cheers.
