'Tris' from 'Divergent': AnnaSophia Robb?
'Tris' from 'Divergent': AnnaSophia Robb?
So long as the possibility exists that Veronica Roth's new bestselling novel Divergent will make it to film (and, as of now, there's a strong one even though it's very early in the game), it'll happen: fan-casting of the characters.
Often with these first-person narratives, it is difficult to envision the picaresque candidate for the various roles, but even still it is certainly fun to try!
For Divergent, our main character and protagonist is "Beatrice Pryor," who later changes her name to "Tris." She's sixteen, blonde, small, and yet still so very fierce. The actress chosen to portray this character on-screen will need to be tough - extremely tough, actually - but she'll also need to have sincere inflections of vulnerability in key moments throughout the story.
She's self-described as not ordinarily pretty (but who isn't, right?), and her physicality changes quite a bit throughout the story (what with the addition of musculature and tattooing), so who could play her?
One idea might be AnnaSophia Robb from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Bridge To Terabithia, and Soul Surfer. Robb, of course, is very pretty, but so is Anne Hathaway, and we saw how she was able to tone it down for The Princess Diaries. The thing I like about AnnaSophia Robb for the role is that she can pull off the at-times-acerbic tones of "Tris" and still be sweet and very likeable. Two video clips of her work are attached which reflect the same. Her range is undeniable.
Also, Robb is only eighteen, comes in at 5'2", and is, well, blonde. Recent photos of her are also attached for your consideration.
So, what do you think? Could AnnaSophia Robb be a contender for "Tris"?
